Though the mass media continues to peddle the official line about inspectors being “expelled” from Iraq, in fact they were pulled out by Butler just days before bombs began to fall on Baghdad. on Iraq is an act of imperialist aggression • BY SELVA NEBBIA U.S.. President George Bush made it clear leading up to January 15 that Washington will do what it what it has been preparing to do since August: unleash a brutal, wide spread, and devastating imperialist war of aggression against the people of Iraq.

We deplore the sacrifice of our soldiers and sailors, whose bravery deserves admiration even in an unjust war. We denounce the slaughter of the Filipinos as a needless horror. We protest against the extension of American sovereignty by Spanish methods. “We demand the immediate cessation of the war against liberty, begun by Spain and continued.   The order prepared American troops to become part of an international coalition in the war against Iraq that would be launched as Operation Desert Storm in January

The Gulf War against Iraq wasn't really a war at all. It was a one-sided slaughter in a country that was no match for the massive armed might of the U.S. military and its many allies. It will be argued that the focus on either the factors supporting a preemptive war against an Iraq possessing weapons of mass destruction; or on criticisms against US imperialism and corporate interests, are not so much wrong, but simply reflect a limited political paradigm for understanding the motivations behind US foreign policy.

The 20th century then ended with what Amin and El Kenz call “the second Gulf war – that ofwhich did not take place.” [7] Part of what prevented this Anglo-American bombing of Iraq (Operation Desert Fox) from developing into a broadened war was European unwillingness to go along with it.
